Fill up on the things that restore and revive you.

Beautiful Ones,
In all that there is to do (and I do mean all . . . so many to-dos), have you paused to take a moment to whisper a welcome for September?
Have you stood in the silence to give thanks? To look out at the flowers, the sky? To listen to the rustling in the wind, anticipating change and the falling away of all adornment?
Let us do it together, as I lead with an excerpt from my book, Let There Be Art.
The slow, silent, and unseen place you are in is good. It is a healing space; it is a hope-filled space. In this quiet time of respite, take inventory of where and how you feel depleted. Ask yourself honest questions and look at the work you put your hands to.
Where is there burnout?
Where is there striving?
Where is there overextension?
Where is there exhaustion?
As you locate these places, may you nourish yourself with the nutrients you need. Fill up on the things that restore and revive you. This will heal you for the here and now, but it will also prepare you for the future work you will do. Surround yourself with books, encouraging people, mentors of the creative passions you’ve paused from pursuing. There is purpose in this process, and there is so much unseen life in this silent season. It might be hard to hear and hard to believe.
It is hidden; nevertheless, it is here.
Yes, yes, yes.
Here is a prayer from Let There Be Art to help usher in the peace that lay before us:
God, quiet my soul and quiet my mind. Open my ears to hear that you are always speaking. Open my eyes to see that you are always moving and working. You are creating new life in and through me, even when the work of my hands comes to a pause. Thank you for the goodness that grows beneath the surface. Thank you for loving and leading me through all my seasons. Amen.
All,
Rachel

I love the beauty that flows out of the hard in your words. It is what keeps me coming back here every week and keeps me turning pages in “The Matter of Little Losses”. After another night spent lying awake with my mind spinning, jumping from one worry to the next, I will use this as a reminder to set up my day differently, to slow the pace down. To turn off the tv that allows moments of needed dissociation and instead try to fill my soul with the site of my horses grazing in their pastures, our resident blue heron swooping over the pond, the feel of breeze of cooler fall days. I need to slow down!
I must say, Rachel, this excerpt hits my heart & soul in all the tough & tender places. All those “re-“ words?? Oh, yes. 🙌🏻👏🏻🫶🏻🙏🏻
