It’s practical advice, and it’s also something to ponder.
It’s about a miracle, but it’s also about something mundane, just a baby in a lowly manger. It’s something simple that can (and should) be done in all seasons, especially this dark, cold winter that is upon us.
It’s for the ones afraid to write. Afraid to try, afraid to tell, afraid to believe, afraid to begin.
Ponder this . . .
The whole world celebrates the birth
of a swaddled
savior
simply because someone wrote the story.
Simply because someone wrote the story . . .
We know because someone took note.
We worship because someone wrote.
We celebrate because some captured.
And I just gotta ask — what will you do with the simple and sacred stories that you are carrying in and through this season?
Will you keep them locked inside your mind, evanescing as memory often does?
Or will you tell? Tell it on the mountains, tell the truth about what you’ve witnessed, felt, heard, and done?
No matter the mystery, miracle, or myth. Tell me — will you tell it?
Practical tip . . .
Let’s do some early morning math drills:
Writing ≠ always for the whole world.
Writing ≠ always for the whole world.
Writing ≠ always for the whole world.
If you’ve got a dream or desire to write, but your first accompanying thought is, “I couldn’t possibly share this online . . . or on social media . . . or in a book . . . or with any other living soul” — then you’re doing it wrong ☻
Your concern need not be
to reach the masses.
Your concern need only be
to record your moments.
Begin, or begin again, with a journal. A private blog. A plain document on your desktop. The notes app on your phone.
Simply write what you’ve witnessed, felt, heard, and done.
Perhaps someday these stories will help save another. But for now, simply let them be exactly what they are.
Yeah — moments recorded in time.
Miracles made known in the midst of the mundane.
I love this. We have been walking through a devastating health issue with my husband that began slowly 7 years ago, and we have been in the fire with it for the last 3. And the fire keeps getting hotter as things progress. I try to remind myself to write down thoughts , happenings and especially things that God shows me and speaks to my heart through it all. Thank you for this little Christmas gift 🎁 of encouragement 😊
Beautiful. Too often writing = publishing in our culture. This is a great reminder that it doesn't have to.
